Biography
C. Darren Butler is an Ecological Landscape Designer, Consulting Arborist, and Greywater Consultant and Designer. In Feb, 2009 he offered the first greywater design and installation certification course ever taught in Southern California. He has consulted about and designed greywater systems since 2005, the longest track record of any currently active greywater professional based in Los Angeles County.

He speaks throughout California on topics related to landscapes, gardening, trees, irrigation, and sustainability, including two keynote speeches at major events in 2009.

From 2007 - 2009 he served on statewide Advisory and Steering Committees for all University of California Master Gardener programs in California, which influenced the outreach efforts of 4,500 California Master Gardeners and the 100,000 or more California residents they serve every year.

He has appeared on several episodes of "Weekend Gardening" for a large international television audience as an expert horticulturist and landscaper, on NPR radio, on local television, in newspapers, in other national and local media, and as an arborist expert witness. He has taught dozens of courses and workshops to thousands of students of all ages on gardening, horticulture, trees, greywater use, sustainability, permaculture, design, landscaping, irrigation, and related topics in a wide variety of venues, including Sustainable Landscape Design and Diagnosing Plant Problems for the University of California Master Gardener Program in Los Angeles since 2006.

He volunteers hundreds of hours per year primarily to promote sustainable practices and to help low-income people grow and eat more nutritious food, with contributions of time to dozens of projects since 2005, including in 2007 - 2008 acting as horticultural consultant for the Edible Walls project through urbanfarming.org for the homeless in downtown Los Angeles.

He maintains many landscape- and plant-related certifications and licenses including ISA Certified Arborist, University of California Master Gardener, Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor, Permaculture Design Certificate, Greywater Action.Org Greywater Installer, and others.
