Biography

I have a great love and affinity of the land. It's no surprise that I'm a gardener by trade (and by passion). Being in touch with the soil and nature feeds me at a soul level. My first career was in farming for 15 years. Now I hold a landscape contractors license and have been designing and caring for gardens all over Contra Costa County for 16 years. I have a Permaculture Design Certificate from The Oakland Permaculture Institute. In the past two years, I have also lead workshops on the principals of Permaculture and Greywater. Along with my beloved Teresa, I am co-founder of the Martinez Permaculture Center, a resource for sustainable living practices and creating healthy communities. Our home is a working model of our vision. We have fruit trees, vegetables, bees, chickens, compost and greywater. Since installing my first greywater system in 2008, I delightfully continue to learn and develop my ability for delivering greywater safely and effectively to each new landscape. Every system presents a new situation and the art lies in coalescing assets of greywater, harvested rainwater, and city or well water to meet the needs of the landscape. I have witnessed such amazing results after the responsible application of greywater in gardens. This convinces me that greywater is part of the solution to meeting our watering needs in an ecologically sustainable way. Considering my background as a professional landscape contractor and years of plumbing experience, I highly recommend the Greywater Action Design and Installation Course to fellow designers and contractors.
