Biography
At Regenerative Design Studios we utilize cutting edge technology alongside nature’s rhythmic patterns to guide our clients towards a sanctuary of beauty and resources in perpetual contribution. RDS utilizes processes that restore, renew or revitalize their own sources of energy and materials, creating beyond-sustainable systems that integrate the needs of society with the integrity of nature. Robin Grabs recently graduated Magna Cum Laude, with her B.S. in Landscape Architecture from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She received the graduating award of her department, the Howard O. Boltz Award, for recognition of the highest contribution to the Department of Landscape Architecture, to her fellow classmates and faculty and for her overall GPA. Robin has one more year of private practice before taking her licensure exam, the LARE, at whose successful completion she will become a licensed Landscape Architect. In the meantime, Robin is an Associate Member of the ASLA, as well as a licensed Landscape Contractor and working as a Landscape Designer & Consultant on residential, commercial and master planned projects of both small and very large scope. For every project, large and small, RDS designs and installs hybridized systems whose forms, as well as functions, are beautiful. We design with a three-sided approach: Water, Sustainable Energy and Green Materials; each element interconnected to the others. We design and install systems for Greywater, Rainwater & Bioswales and Sustainable Energy Systems for Solar & Wind. We utilize Green Materials & Purposeful Plant Materials. Envision our simple everyday structures, boring, plain and of singular use… A parking structure, for example… Now expand that simple structure’s purpose to include multiple other beneficial, regenerative functions… Instead of just being an object in which cars are parked, imagine its walls and roof festooned and alive with living plant material: trees, vines, shrubs. Solar panels and wind turbines are affixed to it. Electric cars are plugged into it while they park, juicing them with electricity garnered from the systems attached to the structure. The green walls/roof host habitat and regenerate indigenous ecologies. Rainwater catchment systems stored below the structure hydrate the plants growing on it. Bioswales extend out around it to continue the purification of runoff from it. Birds and butterflies sing and fly around you and the air smells amazing… Pick an apple as you walk to work, its growing right next to your favorite parking spot! Now spread that concept to encompass your home, your community, your country, your world. “Envision a community in which daily activities are based on the value of living within the limits of available renewable resources without environmental degradation. - Professor John T. Lyle (1934-1998)
