Laundry to landscape weekend installation (Cotati and Petaluma)
This workshop is put on by Daily Acts in Petaluma and taught by Christina Bertea and Laura Allen of Greywater Action, with Chris Reamer from Organic Landscapes.
Class Day: Saturday, August 11th Guided Installations: Sunday & Monday, August 12th & 13th
Seeking engaged Petaluma and Cotati Water & Sewer customers to install entire, ecological greywater systems at their homes on the weekend of August 11th-13th. Residents of other cities are welcome to participate by volunteering to help install these laundry-to-landscape systems. The first day is a full-day classroom-style lecture where you’ll learn plant selection, system design and plumbing skills to safely and confidently direct water from your washing machine to your landscape. Days two and three are flexible, hands-on days where volunteers will be matched with a site, and Petaluma and Cotati residents will spearhead their greywater transformations at home. It will all be guided by our experts who will ensure proper code compliance, answer questions and offer helpful techniques to help you achieve your water saving goals. By the end of the weekend we’ll have collectively installed over a dozen greywater systems complying with the new California state code adopted in fall of 2009. Let the greywater flow with gusto!
Laura Allen is a founder of Greywater Action and has spent a decade exploring low-tech, urban ecological sanitation technologies. Christina Bertea is a licensed CA contractor and the first woman admitted to her local plumbers union. Like Laura, she has decades of experience with greywater. Chris Reameris a local landscaper who has installed dozens of greywater systems in Sonoma County.
